it has been a stressful, busy, yet wonderful week here in bishkek.
despite how blessed we are living overseas and growing together as a couple/family... we allow stress to get the best of us:
how is the baby? is she alright? how good is medical care going to be here in bishkek if something were to happen.
money... money... money. how can we save more? how can we spend less? will we have enough next year with a baby?
is jennifer going to take next year off? work part time? or work full time? if she does come back... when should she come back? and how will that effect the baby?
how do we find a nanny that we can trust? will she cook and clean? can i ask her to wear a french maid's outfit?
where are we going to live? the great but very small apartment right downtown walking distance to parks and everything? or the house in an area we don't like (but near the school) with a small yard for boone.
do we bring boone? risk the dangers of flying him halfway around the world. and what do we do with him next summer if we don't move back home... if we stay in bishkek... or if we move to malta, etc?
how is my dad doing? i get "good reports" but i worry about him all the time and his health. i know he is strong and getting amazing medical attention... but the cancer seems to keep spreading.
how do we spend our summer? can we afford trips to california and oregon to see jen's family? or do we just stay in houston and ask them to come visit us?
while or family is support of us living our life and living overseas... is it fair to them for us to keep their grand daughter so far away?
i am throwing up in my mouth worrying about all these things.
it was that kind of weekend for us. so many decisions all piled up at once. neither jennifer or i are very good at "big" decision making. we are great when it comes to off the sleeve, spur of the moment kind of stuff... "sure... let's move to central asia". but otherwise... decision making is almost too grown up for us. the weekend consisted of several teary breakdowns... and not just by the pregnant lady.
all that said... it was a great weekend. highlights include jennifer waking up feeling the baby kick and laughing so hard with happiness it woke me up. our daughter is so active lately and we can feel her through jen's belly. it is amazing trying to "guess" what we are touching. her head... her feet... her hand.
saturday night we celebrated "orthodox easter" at the house of some parents from bis. small kids (the five year old class) running around everywhere. a couple of infants. a great family atmosphere that inspired us to make babies.
we just need to get through this first one!
the bishkek adventure
although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.
Don't worry David and Jen, your baby will help you make all the decisions you need to make. When she comes, she will be the guiding force of all you do for many years to come. Now that is scary!
