the bishkek adventure

although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.

passing of a friend

i learned last night that my friend christine "chrispy" mathna passed away.

chrispy was a large influence in my life and a very dear friend for many years. when i moved to pennsylvania in 1998 to work for longacre expeditions... i lived with her for two years on her farm house on longacre farm. my fondest memories of those times were heartfelt talks with chrispy in her living room while sharing bottles of red wine... evening walks in the farm with her dogs genish and bhakti... and laying out around her pool with her community of family and friends.

after i left central pa and moved to texas... chrispy gave me bhakti saying that we were "too close" to keep apart. she was the first person i called after i had to put bhakti asleep. we both cried together on the phone and the call ended with her saying that "i was a dog person and i had a responsibility to have another dog". i resisted but two short days later i found myself at the austin international airport picking up boone... another german shorthaired pointer that has been the most amazing family member for the past six years.

what i could say about chrispy is that "she was a people person who was always surrounded by people who loved her". and that is how she died... with thirty of her closest friends and family by her side. i knew she had been sick but didn't know to what extent... or i would have been one of those people by her side.

i love you chrispy and thank you for being part of my life.
