we have had a chilly and rainy week here is bishkek. last night... it even started to snow. big, fat, slow snowflakes. kind of like if i was a snowflake. the government turned off the hot water about a month ago (as a result, water radiators can't be used to heat people's homes and bath water is lukewarm at best) in order to save money. so my hypothesis is that folks cranked up their electric heaters and it blew out a transformer... or all the transformers. our house... which didn't lose power once during the winter time daily blackouts... was fine last night while rest of the city was out but we ended up losing power sometime in the night. it is back on now.
all jen and i could think this morning was... "please, please let them cancel school!".
nope! got to love the intrepidness of the former soviets... come rain, snow, power outages, or revolution... life goes on day to day.
the bishkek adventure
although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.
