the bishkek adventure

although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.

our first doll house

we ended up at osh bazaar on saturday showing our latest couch surfer the "real bishkek". did our fruit and veggie shopping for the week... ate at my favorite bazaar shaslik cafe... and as we were heading out... i found the world's best doll house - an authentic kyrgyzstan yurt.

the woman in the booth... seeing that i was an american... immediately asked for 3000som (about $60). i threw out a disgusted "balchoy malinki" which is suppose to mean "that is big money... are you crazy?". she dropped her price to 1000som and i was sold. jen just looked at me... shook her head... with a look that said "daddy is going to be a sucker".

we already had a bunch of felt dolls that we bought over christmas. we played with it for about an hour the first night. can't wait for our daughter to get here!

you can read jen's (much better) version of this post here... joy in the journey.
