last night jen and i broke out the caveman outfits from last year (with some left over material to make olive a costume as well) and headed out to the metro bar for halloween (we also went to the metro last year for our first halloween in bishkek).
we left olive with baby sitters for the first time. completely nerve racking. we managed to go to dinner with the holmes (shane and jennifer) at a little japanese restaurant before we finally broke down and called the undelands to see how olive was doing.
we knew we had nothing to worry about but we worried anyway. olive was in great hands and the house was packed full of kyrgyz - a doctor and mother of two, her sister who is the mother of two, an uncle, the grandma, the housekeeper/nanny, the three girls (who had just come over for ice cream the day before) and the brother. sorry for the pun... but it really does take a whole village (of kyrgyz) to raise a baby!
at first i gave jenny a hard time for calling but then i found myself checking the phone every five minutes (literally) to see if they were trying to call us.
despite our panic... we had a great time. the party sported tons of people dressed up, an aerosmith cover band, fire dancers, a couple of strippers (that was a bit shocking), and lots of dancing (but not with the strippers). we ended up sitting at a table next to some mafia girlfriends.
got to love bishkek!
the bishkek adventure
although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.

Looks like everybody had a good time. I like the cave kids costume. She sure is growing fast.
