today we celebrated our second thanksgiving in bishkek... and our first with young olive. we had school today so the jen was left with the manly task of baking the turkey, making the cream of corn and a rice dish. no - we weren't hosting anyone at home - we went to marykay and sasha's house. but we volunteered to make some food and got a bit carried away (they also had a turkey). how does one get a turkey in central asia? it isn't what you know... it is who you know! our friends the holmes hooked us up with one from manas airbase. the evening was nice. we weren't really with anyone from outside of work so we are hoping to host our friends in the next week or so.
i feel like i have much to be thankful for this year. (here is the short version)
1. i am thankful for my wife and best friend jennifer.
2. i am thankful for olive. i never knew i could love so much until we had her.
3. i am thankful for my family back in the states. i know we are far away but we love you and appreciate you. we only hope we can be as good as parents as you.
4. i am thankful for having gotten to spend my dad's last days with him. it is unimaginable to me him not being with us anymore.
5. i am thankful for my families good health.
6. i am thankful for a job that allows us to grow as people, as a family, and allows us to travel and see the world.
7. i am thankful for olive. she is so wonderful i have to mention her twice.
8. how could i not mention being thankful for boone! having him here completes our family.
i am feeling pretty blessed...
the bishkek adventure
although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.
