monday and tuesday brought the first snow of the year to bishkek. although the mountains outside of town have slowly disappeared under a blanket of white... we have been enjoying an extended indian summer. comfortable days with cool nights. the trees colorful and bright. a great fall.
although i didn't want fall to end... i had romanticized winter a bit and was looking forward to our first snow fall. the sky taking on that knowing gray color. sunlight taking on a special hue as it is filtered through the clouds. fat, lazy snowflakes slowly drifting down from the heavens and smaller, faster pellets racing down in between them. the stillness and quiet that comes with everything being blanketed by snow.
it was lovely.
until i had to get up for work the next morning 45 minutes earlier than usual to dig the car out of the ice block surrounding it. until my knuckles started to bleed from scraping off the windows with a credit card. until i had to spend 15 minutes trying to find boone who had run off while i was occupied with the car. until i practically did a 180 while turning into the school while giving the undeland girls a ride to school.
love the first snow!
the bishkek adventure
although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.
