the bishkek adventure

although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.

bus 59a

in our second day in vienna we have become fairly intimate with bus 59a. it has been our main means of transportation into the city centre and back from rainer's flat. the weather warmed substantially from our first couple of days and it was much more comfortable outside and conducive to walking around.

we spent the entire day walking around the old town and getting lost on side streets always finding ourselves someplace worthy of exploring. jen and i talked about it and by far it is our favorite thing to do... just kind of wander without a plan (same could be said about our non-vacation life maybe!) and see what the day presents us.

today held lots of lovely old historic buildings, christmas markets, and holiday cheer (it has been fun to see all the families out and about). olive loves walking around in the baby bjorn and has been a trooper so far. we think she is having fun!

we made dinner for the couch surfers. it was suppose to be a tomato bisque soup but turned into a tomato sauce with gnocci.

  1. I love the bottom two photos of "little bit". Yes, she looks like a happy traveler. The architecture is amazing and interesting. I'm sure it is fun to just roam around. I would probably roam into the ghetto of just about any city and you would never see me again. Everything looks so neat and clean there. Glad you are all having a good time. We had a great dinner at Deana's with Buddy's family and extended family. Everyone was so warm and easy to be with. Schere was pretty sick and they couldn't make it. I think we had 16 or so...pretty big group. Good time. Will be missing you guys tomorrow. Have fun & be safe!

  3. The second to last photo of Olive is AMAZINGLY adorable!!! So much personality popping out.

Thanks for being so on top of keeping the blog updated. It feels like being out there with you guys (well, except for without the shocking cold, the feeling of being around another culture/people, or the additional passport stamps) :). What a wonderful adventure! Keep having fun!!
