the bishkek adventure

although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.

a sad day

today was a pretty sad day. we had to say goodbye to our family which wasn't easy. all of my immediate family is here in houston and they were the reason why jenny and i moved here last september. spending time mom and bob, dad and gloria, and deana, colton and buddy has really been the highlight of the year. the reality of leaving them behind is hard to deal with.

we also had to say goodbye to our friends and our neighborhood. montrose has to be the best place to live in all of houston and since we have lived here, we have been so lucky to meet nick and april, mark and emily, carrie and cartwright, and everyone from the dog park. the silver lining is that jen and i feel really confident that we will maintain our relationship with those guys when we are gone. several of our friends are planning on meeting us in thailand this winter which will be amazing.

leaving our jobs, packing up our house, leaving behind our friends and family... all add up to a tough day. but the worse part... the hardest part... was saying goodbye to molly and boone.

boone knew that something was up. he has been mopping for the past couple of days, following us around, watching us pack. anytime we would let him outside, he would go stand out by the gate with hope that we would take him with us. the only saving grace is knowing that richard will take care of him and love him and knowing that we will see him next summer.

we decided that we should take molly to the vet for a consultation before we leave. he confirmed what we already knew... molly wasn't doing well and should be put to sleep.

maybe she would be fine for another week... another month... but the quality of her life wasn't as good as it should be due to her advanced arthritis and other ailments. saying goodbye to molly was the hardest.

it has been a very sad day.

  1. I am so sorry you had to have Molly put down. I know that was hard for you to do. It was time and she will be in doggie heaven and apprecative that you took the time to help her go with dignity. We are sorry for your loss.

  3. I love Molly. Jen and Dave--you are so strong. I believe she wanted you to be there through everything.

Richard, call us so we can get Boone and Seven together at the park: 561-859-2331. Booney probably needs a friend right now, and we would love to see him and you!
