the bishkek adventure

although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.

stari gorad

about 12 of our friends went out to dinner after the game last night to on of jen and my favorite places in bishkek - stari gorad. it is one of the restaurants that is better served for a special occasion than an any night meal. dinner there is more of a production than a meal. there are always belly dancers, karaoke singers, and in the summer gypsy acts outside.

the night was suppose to be a victory dinner - but as we got spanked i almost felt like i should be buying for making everyone sit through the two hour game.

it was still a good time and nice that (almost) everyone was into hanging out. we sat at a tea table (where you take your shoes off and lounge on pillows and cushions around a low sitting table). jen opted to stay home as olive was feeling sick (still) and went into full breakdown mode right after the game.

in typical fashion with so many places here - the restaurant was out of most of the items on the menu (funny how they never run out of vodka). but the food they did have was good.

afterwards people headed out dancing and i headed home to check on my family.
