last week i went with sasha to the office of foreign affairs. besides being a drab, soviet style building (the lights off in the hallway, old computers and desk blocking walkways)... it was a pretty uneventful visit. no vodka. no exchange of money. no budging.
i still have to leave the country.
the minister (in a government sort of ministry way) we met with did offer to extend my exit visa (an exit visa is a polite way of giving someone a target date to get the heck out of dodge) until the 8th of october - which would coincide with jen and my trip to almaty, kazakhstan for the central asian soccer classic. but of course... when returned the next day my passport contained an exit visa good until september 30th.
so not sure what is going to happen. we are going to find out today if i have to leave the country tomorrow or if i can stick around until the 8th. either way... i will have to leave and hang out in almaty for a day/week/month until i am able to get another visa to get back into kyrgyzstan.
my director, marykay, called it a paid vacation.
the bishkek adventure
although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.
Hmm...I look forward to more in the harrowing tale of "American Man Trapped Without a Country!" :)
