the bishkek adventure

although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.

passage to india

our passage to india was long... which is odd because it was only a four hour flight to delhi. but our day consisted of a five our drive to kazakhstan, a three hour wait at the airport in almaty, the four hour flight, and an hour drive from the airport in delhi to our "hotel" (which included a flat tire in the taxi).

the drive to almaty was nice. raj... the friend we made while getting our visas... rode up with us and provided nice conversation on the way. plus... he brought some indian food (a warm up for us!) that he had his cook make for the trip (raj owns a couple of clubs in bishkek).

the flight was nice and we were able to score exit row seats (that won't last for long with a baby coming... so we should enjoy it while we can). once in delhi, we found out how good it was to have raj with us as his brother in law met us outside our gate and escorted us right through customs (i guess he works for the indian secret service). they helped us get a pre-paid taxi to our hotel and we said our goodbyes.

as mentioned already... the taxi ride was eventful. even at midnight... the roads where packed full of cars, auto rickshaws, and cyclist each honking and weaving in and out of each other. our driver did too much (or not enough) weaving as we ended up with a flat tire. we pulled over... got out... and stood around with a bunch of homeless people who walked up to see what was going on. good times!

by the time we arrived to our room... we were so tired we could barely stay awake. our room at the "grand godwin hotel" was in the old town pahar ganj area of downtown delhi also known as the "main bazaar". loud, crazy, people everywhere... even at 1230am at night. we quickly feel asleep in our room making sure not to touch anything and to lay on our own sheets! we had a train to catch at 600am so we set our alarm for 515am and fell asleep within minutes.
