the bishkek adventure

although "our story" as a couple originated in 2006... the bishkek adventure officially began in july of 2008 when jennifer and i accepted teaching positions at an international school in bishkek, kyrygzstan. we started this blog with the hope that it would be an entertaining and accurate catalog of our years living abroad. although we are back in the states now after two years in central asia and our life is not nearly as exotic or exciting... we are keeping the blog going writing for our friends, families and for our first born child, olivia (olive) annmarie conover, who blessed us with her arrival on monday, august 24 at 2:15pm.

playing basketball in america

for the past two weeks i have been playing basketball on tuesday nights at the us embassy in bishkek. since i have been here - i have been pestering anyone and everyone i met to get an invite to play at the game (it is one of the few pickup games going in town - the other one being the saturday morning hope game). finally - i think i bothered enough people that they decided to invite me.

ah... america! the embassy grounds are considered "sovereign" american territory. it is almost like being home again. if only home was a unobtrusive, heavily fortified basketball court surrounded by snow capped mountains and soviet high rise apartments.

the guys (all of whom work at the embassy) are a good group and it has been fun getting some runs in and making new friends.
